Happy 2019! If you are like me, you spend the last few days of 2018 and the first few days of 2019 going through books to get ready for new reading goals…but more specifically The Unread Shelf Challenge.
I took part in this last year, but never really had an accurate count of how many books I had in my personal library. However, this time I wanted to make sure that I had a concrete number to track throughout the year.
The final number of unread books on my shelves is 462.
At first I was shocked by this number. As someone who reads 80-100 books a year, this means I have (roughly) 5 years of books just sitting on my shelves waiting to be read. Originally, I didn’t want to share this number. However, I realized that this number not only reflected how much I love literature but also how many wonderful people have contributed to this love of mine.
So, now for the important question. How am I going to tackle this list of books in the year 2019?
- Follow Challenges organized by TheUnreadShelf on Instagram
- Select a top 15 books to read this year
- Select a book based on my Read the Rainbow Challenge
- Go through my shelves again in June to see if there are any books I would like to remove from my collection because they don’t spark any interest.
My overall goal is to read at least 4 books a month from my unread shelf to total around 50 books throughout the year. For my first book of the year I am reading The Red Queen’s Daughter by Jacqueline Kolosov.
Cheers to a wonderful 2019!
